ALANart – communicating the ecological impacts of artificial light at night with an immersive art installation

ALANart raises awareness for impacts of light pollution on ecological systems with an immersive art installation. Successful dissemination to the target audience is guaranteed by moderated events, workshops and exhibitions at publicly accessible venues.  ALANart targets two main audiences for which the artworks will raise awareness for light pollution through personal engagement and interaction: professionals (e.g., architects, landscape architects, city planners, lighting planners and engineers, gardeners) and the general public (e.g., schools, homeowners). Successful dissemination to the target audience is guaranteed by moderated events, workshops and exhibitions at publicly accessible venues. Representatives of the professional target audience will be invited to the Tree Museum in Rapperswil in 2027 where we will have two moderated events with talks and panel discussions. For the broad public, we plan a total of 10 half-day workshops with scientists focusTerra (ETH Zürich) in 2028. The success of the knowledge transfer by the artwork is evaluated by a survey on the effects of the artwork in sensitizing the participants in a series of questions centering around thematic expectations, importance of light-pollution.
