  • Biogeochemistry: Elucidation of undesirable effects on key mircobial processes (litter decomposition and CO2 effluxes from soils) by management practises and anthropogenic impact

Arbeiten Retreating glaciers create new forelands which will be first colonized by microorganisms. The goal of this study is to get a better integrated understanding of the microbial community succession in relation to bioweathering, re-colonization of fresh rocks and initial soil formation at Damma glacier.

Effects of soil compaction on soil functions and soil microbial communities

Arbeiten Soil compaction caused by passage of logging machinery reduces the soil air capacity. Prolonged compaction of forest soils might enhance greenhouse gas-producing microbial activities and induce a change in the soil microbial community and favour organisms capable of tolerating anoxic conditions.
