Research Interests

I study biogeochemical processes in soils of near-natural ecosystems, how these processes are influenced by soil pollution or climatic changes, and how they affect soil functions. Furthermore, I want to know more about how plant-soil-microbe interactions in the root zone influence biogeochemical cycles on a macro scale.

For details on processes at the root-soil interface see research focus "Rhizosphere".

Projects in research focus "Rhizosphere"

  • nutrient mobilisation in glacier forefields
  • phosphorus and heavy metal mobilisation in the rhizosphere of Lupin and Thlaspi
  • phytostabilisation of heavy metal polluted soils
  • aluminum tolerance of spruce
  • Project in research focus "Nutrient Cycling"

    • microhabitat effects on n2o emissions from semiterrestrial soils
    • nitrogen cycling in floodplain soils
    • nitrate leaching from floodplain soils

Project in research focus "Soil Protection"

    • Heavy metals in forest soils
