Technical Specialist I – Vocational Instructor
Research Unit: Forest Health and Biotic Interactions – Group: Phytopathology

  • Microbiological activities: Preparation of various culture media, isolation of fungi and oomycetes from plant samples, preparation of liquid cultures, growth and mating experiments, extraction of wood nematodes, taking care of strain collection, assistance in greenhouse and laboratory experiments at biosafety levels 1 to 3.
  • Molecular biology activities: DNA, eDNA and RNA extractions, conventional and multiplex PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, RT-qPCR, gel electrophoresis, microsatellite analyses, Sanger sequencing, analyses of fungal RNA viruses, documentation, and archiving of samples and data, method development and optimization.
  • Working in molecular diagnostics of plant pathogens: fungi, oomycetes, bacteria, nematodes and insects. Participation in the development and establishment of new analytical methods, creation and updating of diagnostic protocols.
  • Assist in the organization and supervision of the biosafety level 1 to 3 plant protection laboratory, operate and maintain laboratory equipment, organize external maintenance, prepare work instructions, order laboratory supplies and dispose of chemicals.
  • Participation in the training of apprentices as laboratory assistants in biology, supervision of the individual practical work (IPA) as deputy supervisor, laboratory and method introduction of PostDocs, PhD students, students and guests, support and troubleshooting in case of method difficulties and equipment malfunctions.
