
Varietà genetica e genetica della conservazione

La misura in cui le specie vegetali o animali riescono ad adattarsi al proprio ambiente dipende dalla loro varietà genetica. Noi studiamo i processi ecologici in popolazioni di funghi, piante e animali, applicando metodi di genetica che integriamo con indagini sperimentali.
Come si adattano le piante alpine al cambiamento delle condizioni ambientali? Qual è l’influenza di strade sulla diffusione di popolazioni e sulle loro interrelazioni? Come si ripercuote la riproduzione fra consanguinei sulle specie rare?
Risposte a queste domande si possono trovare grazie a metodi genetici. Con metodi di genetica ed esperimenti, ad esempio in serra, studiamo i processi ecologici in popolazioni vegetali e animali, classifichiamo le specie in base alle loro sequenze di DNA (eDNA). Nelle nostre ricerche ci concentriamo su specie che hanno un ruolo importante nell’ecosistema oppure che sono rare o a rischio. I dati che ne ricaviamo costituiscono basi importanti per la pianificazione e l’applicazione di misure di protezione della natura e delle specie, ma anche per la selvicoltura.
