Research Interests

My primary research interest is combining approaches from landscape ecology, historical ecology, and environmental history to study the interrelationship of natural and anthropogenic driving forces of landscape changes. Current work focuses on landscape history and on forest dynamics in Switzerland and in Europe.

4°C+ oder mehr: Landschaften im Klimawandel

Mittels qualitativer und quantitativer Modellierungen werden Szenarien der Landschaftsveränderung unter Klimawandel für die Jahre 2050 und 2100 entworfen und in Bildern und einer Video-Animation visualisiert.

Lebensraumkarte historisch

In diesem Projekt wird untersucht, ob es möglich ist, die Kartierung der aktuellen Verteilung der Lebensräume durch die Kartierung der historischen Situation für die Jahre 1950, 1980 und 2000 zu ergänzen, d.h. eine Periode mit zunehmender Landnutzungsintensität und abnehmender Biodiversität.

Waldlabor Zürich

Das Waldlabor Zürich ist ein erlebnisorientierter Bildungs- und Forschungsort, es ist das erste Waldlabor der Schweiz. Sustainable Intensification of agriculture (SI) is advocated by both, scientists and policy makers, as a solution for the dilemma between the need to increase agricultural production and the need to reduce the environmental burden which intensification historically entailed.

CLIMASTEPPE - Solutions for climate-smart land use in the dry steppes of Russia

In the CLIMASTEPPE project, we will investigate with partners from Russia, Germany, Slovakia how to optimise the land use of Russian steppe under changing climate conditions.
